Joshua Tree

I had heard about Joshua Tree National Park for a long time before ever going there, which finally happened over Thanksgiving weekend! It’s obviously pretty famous, since I had heard about it a lot, and a lot (if not all) of you have probably heard about it! I hadn’t actually been into much “nature” stuff before to moving to San Diego…odd, because I was born and lived my entire life (minus college) in Portland, OR, which is well-known for being very beautiful. Maybe I didn’t appreciate it because I had it my whole life? Who knows. I did explore a fair amount up there, but didn’t really make an effort ever. Now that I’m in San Diego though, I find everything overwhelmingly beautiful and actually make an effort to explore all these different areas that are known as natural attractions. What is happening to me?? Ha, it’s obviously great though!

Joshua Tree was AMAZING and way more beautiful than I was expecting, with my prior anti-nature views. How cool can trees and rocks be? I just wanted to see it because we were in the area and it’s so famous, and people would probably like photos from there. I am IN LOVE though, completely in love! Trees and rocks are actually super amazing, FYI. You should probably go to Joshua Tree, if you haven’t. We are definitely going to go back. We unfortunately didn’t get much time there, so we are hoping to take a longer trip, maybe do some camping (gasp!), when it gets warmer of course. I hope you enjoy these photos for now though, until we go again! ๐Ÿ™‚

Del Mar Racetrack

Background story on this:  Several months ago, like possibly a year ago, I met a photographer at Seaport Village who was participating in a scavenger hunt as part of a Meetup group. I think I must have had my camera with me, because he told me all about the group, and recommended that I try it out. He gave me his card, but I forgot about it for a long time, and I”m not sure where exactly it is now. So I finally decided to go look for the group on Meetup.com, and I have no idea which one it was, ha. I did, however, find some great photography groups (and have since then started joining other groups, although I haven’t gone to any except this one photography group so far). The Pacific Photographic Society is AMAZING, and they have all sorts of events all the time. This was my first event with them, and it was such a great opportunity!

So, as part of the Meetup with the Pacific Photographic Society group, we got press passes for a day at the Del Mar Racetrack. We got to go early in the morning to watch the warm-ups, then a tour of a stable, and then we got to go to a bunch of special locations to take photos of the races and the horses getting ready that the general public doesn’t get to go to. I had been to the racetrack before, but definitely didn’t get this kind of special access, so it was a lot of fun. The members of the Meetup group are great too, and everyone was so helpful with tips on shooting and such. I highly recommend the group, and I can’t wait for more events like this! Also, horse racing is fun. ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy New Year!!

072_12131_fullHappy New Year!! 2015 was a CRAZY year, both personally and for the business! Hubby (the cute one, pictured here) was gone for the first part of the year (which was only half of the the deployment) and I was discovering San Diego on my own, with my baby puppy Widdle. The last half has been a whirlwind, including losing Widdle, getting two new baby puppies, Wicket and Weechee, moving to a new place, much more exploring, and becoming a member of Spanish Village and figuring out what to do with my business. At the beginning of the year, I was going to pursue photojournalism, but I had no idea that I would get the opportunity to be one of the artists at Spanish Village! I am excited to continue to photograph the things that I love the most, and for 2016, the current plan is to expand into product photography. I love capturing interesting details, angles, etc. when I take photos, so I would love to be able to use my perspective to try to take great photos of people’s products!

This is me sorta making New Year’s resolutions, because I’ve never been into that. So it’s my business goal for the year; product photography! My other goal is to enjoy life as much this year as last year, and even more! ย I am also going to try to be better at posting on here. ๐Ÿ™‚ ย I hope all of you had wonderful 2015’s and have even better 2016’s ahead!

Thank you to Robyn Icks Photographyย for the amazing photo!
