Happy New Year!!

072_12131_fullHappy New Year!! 2015 was a CRAZY year, both personally and for the business! Hubby (the cute one, pictured here) was gone for the first part of the year (which was only half of the the deployment) and I was discovering San Diego on my own, with my baby puppy Widdle. The last half has been a whirlwind, including losing Widdle, getting two new baby puppies, Wicket and Weechee, moving to a new place, much more exploring, and becoming a member of Spanish Village and figuring out what to do with my business. At the beginning of the year, I was going to pursue photojournalism, but I had no idea that I would get the opportunity to be one of the artists at Spanish Village! I am excited to continue to photograph the things that I love the most, and for 2016, the current plan is to expand into product photography. I love capturing interesting details, angles, etc. when I take photos, so I would love to be able to use my perspective to try to take great photos of people’s products!

This is me sorta making New Year’s resolutions, because I’ve never been into that. So it’s my business goal for the year; product photography! My other goal is to enjoy life as much this year as last year, and even more!  I am also going to try to be better at posting on here. 🙂  I hope all of you had wonderful 2015’s and have even better 2016’s ahead!

Thank you to Robyn Icks Photography for the amazing photo!

Garden Party of the Century

Anything that has this name, of course I had to go! Since this year is Balboa Park’s centennial anniversary, they are doing a bunch of special things all year long, and a big floral party was one of them. I unfortunately had to miss most of it, but did get to see this one small part of it. You can’t go wrong with flowers!

Flowers

Here is a random picture of flowers. 🙂 Flowers are my favorite, and I need to work on posting more of my individual photo edits on here, so here’s a start!flowers w (1 of 1)

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Obviously I’m quite behind on these, but better late than never, right? I’ve never been to a St. Patrick’s Day parade before, so it was a lot of fun. There were some new, interesting things that I hadn’t seen at previous parades I have been to. It was great to see some actual Irish people/things, as opposed to what I normally see on St. Patrick’s day 😉

Spanish Village Art Center

spanish village (1 of 6)I updated my business address on Facebook to show that I am located at Spanish Village Art Center! I have been setting up there on and off for a few weeks now. I love it! I am trying to be there Tuesdays, Fridays, and then either Saturday or Sunday. For those of you that actually want to seek me out, I am going to try to tweet the days that I will be here, because I don’t want to crowd this page with those posts. Find me on twitter here or @bluelily52

Thank you all for your support, and I can’t wait to see you at Spanish Village! 🙂

News!! Exciting news!!

Here is a photo that I just printed to sell, to catch your attention :)

Here is a photo that I just printed to sell, to catch your attention 🙂

Alright, first off, I haven’t been doing much (well, anything really) for about a month.  I mean, photography/business-wise; I’ve been doing quite a lot of other things.  My husband came home from deployment a month ago, and I had a bunch of business craziness right before that, so I took a break to get ready for him to come home, and I guess I’ve been on vacation pretty much since then. 🙂  It’s about time to get going again, as I will hopefully be starting a new “chapter” (I hate clichés, but oh well) ASAP!  This also relates to my craziness a month ago, which leads me to…

I have been accepted into the Spanish Village Art Center at Balboa Park!! I applied in April-ish, and the jury was May 30, right after my RAW show, and right before my husband came home.  So I knew since then, but I just haven’t posted anything.  I am still waiting on one more thing so I can start selling there, which is maybe good that it has taken so long, so that I got my nice little break.  I did buy a couple more things to get my set-up prepared, so I worked a TINY bit, but I don’t really need to do anything else until I actually start selling photos there, so I’m just waiting on my last piece.  Hopefully it will come soon!  I’m REALLY hoping for next week, because I really want to get started out there!

For you San Diego people or people that are familiar with Balboa Park/Spanish Village, you probably understand how excited I am about this.  If you have no idea what it is, it is an AMAZING opportunity.  I posted before about how I was going to look into becoming a photojournalist, but this opportunity actually gives me the chance to do what I’ve been doing all along, and do what I love most, which is taking photos of whatever I want to take photos of, and selling them.  Balboa Park is basically tourist central of San Diego, besides the beaches.  And since San Diego is already a pretty tourist-y area, that’s a very high traffic location for me.  I will be just setting up on the patio, so while setting up and taking down every day isn’t exactly my favorite thing to do, I get to just sell photos pretty much whenever I want to.  I have no idea how it will go, but it has AMAZING potential and is basically the best chance I personally can think of to do what I want to do, but do it full time and possibly actually be able to make a living off of it.  And I’m still my own boss!  I was sooooo worried I wasn’t going to be accepted, because the opportunity seems too good to be true.  Like I said, I hope I get that last piece so I can start selling there and see how it actually goes!

I am not sure what days I will be there yet, but I am going to try to be there most days.  If I work out a set schedule, I will post it on here.  Hopefully any of you that are in the area will come visit me though!

International Dance Festival

I’m working on old photos!  The International Dance Festival was put on by the International Dance Association of San Diego County, on February 15.  I wasn’t there for the entire thing, but I got to see a few different styles of dance, and it was great fun!  The members demonstrated their style of dance, and then opened up the floor to everyone and taught a few steps.  They have classes for pretty cheap prices, so if you’re in the San Diego area, check out their website!

San Diego County Orchid Society Winter Show

The title on this is pretty self explanatory, ha.  It’s the San Diego County Orchid Society‘s Winter Show. I’m a little behind on posting this, since it’s almost time for their spring show.  I thought I was going to spend a lot of time editing the photos so I put it off, but I didn’t.  Orchids are one of my favorite flowers, and I have tried to have them in my house before, but since I have a black thumb of death and they’re one of the hardest plants to take care of, they of course died.  Now, however, I want to try plumeria, which sound even more difficult.  I’m a flower sadist, I guess.  I LOVE flowers though, and I didn’t even have a clue there were this many varieties of orchids!  So gorgeous.

International Houses at Balboa Park

I did a post of general Balboa Park photos earlier, but I took so many photos of the International Houses that I thought they needed their own post.  They are super fun to go through!  Most had small bites of food, but they also asked for donations since they are run by donation, and since I didn’t have much cash on me, I didn’t feel like I should try ALL of them without giving anything, so I tried a couple, and the ones I tried were delicious!  I would definitely recommend trying the food, and donating money if you can!  They are open on Sundays.  Unfortunately, I had to go through pretty fast, because I was with my dad, and he tends to spend very little time looking at things, ha.  I would like to go back and spend more time.  So I also didn’t spend much time on the photos, I basically just snapped photos here and there of as much as I could and didn’t put much thought into them.  They should give you a good idea of what it looks like though!  You can also make it a game of which house is which country. 🙂

Balboa Park

Balboa Park is probably my absolute favorite.  It’s huge, and beautiful, and amazing.  There are so many museums and other random things (I haven’t explored them all yet, so I don’t know what they are yet) in there.  I am working on slowly exploring the whole thing.  I posted photos from a vintage car expo previously, and I already have two more sets of photos to come from this particular visit.  They have free museums on Tuesdays, and I plan to work my way through all of them, as well as explore the entire park.  I am so excited!  It’s definitely worth a visit.  These photos are just photos I took while walking around.  The next sets will be of the International Houses and an orchid show.
