Portland, You Are Not Ours
This is an ode to a dead sign/photograph. The sign is of course still there, but apparently the City of Portland is going to be charging for commercial use of photographs of it. I’m not 100% sure what that means yet, and I’m not sure if it only applies to new photos taken of it, or if I can no longer sell photos (like this one) of it. This is one of my best selling photos, because it’s a very recognizable landmark. It’s a pretty decent fee too, so if I can’t sell my photos of it anymore without paying, I will probably not be selling them. So you may look at this picture all you’d like, but you might not be able to have it. And if you bought one already, it may be worth tons of money in the future. 😉
In case you’re wondering, since everyone asks, if you’re not familiar with Hipstamatic, this was not taken in April 1981; that’s an effect of the film It was, however, taken in April 2011.
