This gorgeous blue morpho butterfly was at the Butterfly Jungle at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Out of all of the many butterflies there, this one was my favorite. It landed on me twice, so we obviously became friends. As you can see, its wing is damaged, probably due to one of the probably thousands of people that visits these butterflies. Yet, this butterfly was still friendly, and the only blue morpho that opened its wings for me. Don’t you just love the gorgeous, almost iridescent blue on their wings? If you haven’t seen one, they are brown on the outside. They’re still pretty on the outside; they have gorgeous patterns on their wings, but if you see one with its wings closed, you would never guess it’s hiding this beautiful, bright blue inside.

Even though this butterfly was damaged, I still love it the most. I’ve always been drawn to damaged things. Life isn’t perfect, right? There is pain in there, mixed with all the beauty. All of it is beautiful to me, the perfect along with the less-than-perfect. We’re all perfect the way we are. “Lift these broken wings and learn to fly.”
